Hey guys,
Is the NFC Patch Kit compatible also with the newer version of Nexus 7 (2013) ? I assume yes, since there are not many differences..but maybe the position of NFC chip inside the Tablet?
Also, do you need to use external Library for the NFC Antenna, that is attached ? Or can I simply use the MIFARE SDK to develop Apps for MIFARE cards, with enabling the NFC Access in manifest ?
Hope you can help me.
DavidNovember 24, 2014 at 5:37 am #29320Uf, I just noticed. Do you have to disassebmle the Tablet in order to attach this kit?
I think you should point out that more obviously, because reading it as “Patch Kit”, people (like me) can imagine just something that attaches itself on the back of the Tablet.
It does not say that you have to diss-asemble your Tablet to install this Kit.November 24, 2014 at 3:05 pm #29395Hi David, the latest version of the NFC Patch Kit does not require you to disassemble the Tablet in any way. The patch adheres to the back of the tablet, directly over the scan surface. Also, the patch kit is currently compatible with the Nexus 7 v2 (2013). More on the details of the patch design and placement on the Nexus 7 v2 are here:
The final NFC Patch measures 64mm x 56.25mm x 1mm and the NFC Antenna 33.762mm in diameter. The patch is a seamless accessory in that it does not alter the functionality of the Android environment. So your app NFC functions will work in the exact same way as they do with the original tablet.
November 25, 2014 at 5:35 am #29529Richard, I have to say that’s briliant news!
Our company might order a sample to develop some Apps on it, and we might get your company a big deal here, if we manage to create what we need. Since we’ll need quite lots of such patches !
So I basically take the NFC patch and somehow “glue” it to the back of the tablet at the position where the NFC chip is, right ? Without needing to OPEN anything on the Tablet or have any other interaction with Tablet’s hardware ?
And is this patch easily “un-glued” from the tablet ? For example, if the user wants to move only the Tablet but not the kit with him.Do you have such patch kits in stock ? I don’t want to sound bad, but have read other Topics here and people kind of complained about the deliveries. We surely can’t wait months for this patch to be delivered.
Please answer me this ASAP, so that we can start motion here.

I forgot to also add, is this NFC patch kit supported for MIFARE cards ?
Because it seems that your antenna is in circle shape ?
I imagine this is the coil that needs to be shaped as the Cards NFC chip ?
I think only NFC TAGs have the circle-like shape of the NFC chip and MIFARE (example DESFire doesn’t).November 25, 2014 at 3:51 pm #29613Hey David, yeah the NFC Patch will adhere to the backside of the Nexus 7 v2 tablet, directly over the scan area of the device. There is no need to open the device in any way. The adhesive we provide with the NFC Patch is pretty stiff but optional to use. You can use any double-sided tape as long as it’s not too thick (<4mm).
We currently have 19 NFC Patch Kits in stock. Orders from the factory require a lead time of 2 weeks to fulfill if you need more than what we have in stock. Customers have experienced delays in the past, as noted on our forums, because we re-engineered the product. However, now the product is stable and the supply chain more standardized, so I don't foresee delays in fulfilling your order beyond what I stated above.
The NFC Patch Kit comes with a 32mm round antenna which is ideal for sticker tags of 35mm diameter and below. It also works well with 12mm x 52mm label tags we sell. For NFC Cards (ISO/IEC 7810), are not effectively read with the 32mm antenna. For best performance, we offer the 56mm x 64mm antenna instead (click the product dropdown).
November 25, 2014 at 5:52 pm #29634Richard thanks for the response.
Can you please state it for me simply, if the above mentioned 56mmx64mm antenna, is compatible with the MIFARE DESFire Card ?
Is it possible for you to test it, if you are not sure?November 25, 2014 at 8:35 pm #29656Yes, the 56mmx64mm antenna is compatible with the MiFare Desfire Cards. I took a moment to record a quick video to show you how simple and effective the solution is. I hope you’re as satisfied as we are.
November 27, 2014 at 12:36 pm #29894Richard is it also compatible with Nexus 7 (2012) ? It has an NXP Chip inside it.
