Hi guys!
I know you guys are busy working on the apps, while putting the parts together, while trying to answer questions…. but, my NFC band-aid (for the nexus 10) is unfortunately not working.
I’m happy to send the band-aid back or if you can provide me some troubleshooting tips, that would be great!
Here are some potential trouble areas:
1. the adhesive on the band-aid isn’t super sticky, so it’s not lying flush to the tablet.
2. the lovely 3D printed reader case fell off.If you have some tests for me to run or would like me to send photos, I’m happy to do so.
Best,
PatriciaP.S. GO NFCs! This is awesome + magical technology and we definitely want to support it! We just want our band-aid to work! Thanks!
November 26, 2013 at 2:03 pm #5173Hi Patricia, sorry for the poor quality of this product. We are working hard to further productize it and appreciate your willingness to help us with that. The issues you point out can indeed the culprit but before we get to those, please review the placement image below to get a better idea of how the band-aid should be placed on the Nexus 10:
If the band-aid has lost it’s stick you can help it out by placing tape over it’s edges to keep it flush with the surface of the device. The next thing that is very important is that the antenna extender is plugged in all the way in band-aid socket. Finally, you need need to reboot your Nexus 10 in order for the NFC module to properly tune itself with the band-aid in place.
As a very simple test, your tag should still be read from the back surface of the Nexus 10 with the band-aid in place. If that’s successful, proceed to check the antenna extender surface. The 3D printed case is purely cosmetic but you should inspect the connections to the green printed circuit board to make sure they are still connected. See below for what they should look like:
The last thing that could be an issue is the size of the tags you are using. Because of the physics involved with NFC, the geometry of the tag you use should be of the same size as the antenna extender or *smaller*. Tags that are bigger than the green printed circuit board will have difficulty being read. If you need larger tags to be read, Flomio can quote you for a custom antenna extender to address your needs. Just let us know.

Thanks for your great troubleshooting guide! The wire connection to the antenna extender surface was loose and I think we can just solder it back on so it works. Any helpful hints and watch outs before we proceed?
Thanks
PatriciaDecember 11, 2013 at 10:28 pm #5223Patricia,
Just be sure to ensure a full loop by testing the connection of each soldered wire. It’s remarkably simple and we apologize for the trouble.
Thanks,
Jake
