Hi all!
Thanks for your help so far. You guys have been great!
While the 12″ of wire for our Nexus 10 band-aid is working great, we would like to extend it 5ft. Is it possible to buy 5ft of wire from you? We would like to have it by January 1st. (or can you recommend a supplier where we can buy it?)Thank you!
PatriciaDecember 18, 2013 at 3:11 pm #5239Hey Patricia, I’m glad the product it working for you!! In all the testing we’ve done, we’ve only been able to get as much as 3ft of extension from the Band-Aid. See the sample below:
There is a possibility to get the full 5ft range but we would need to tap directly into the device’s NFC contacts and tune the external antenna to best match the tags you are using in the field. We can do this work for you but because of the procedure, you will need to send in your Nexus 10 and doing so will void the device’s warranty.
We will be closed from December 27th, 2013 to January 4, 2014 so make sure to take that into account.
thanks,
December 18, 2013 at 3:44 pm #5240Bummer! I’m glad you guys did that testing already (so we didn’t have to learn the hard way).
Still possible to order 36″ of the wire then? (we can always cut it down)?
Thanks

December 18, 2013 at 4:06 pm #5243Patricia, the wire you already have with your Band-Aid is extendable in the sense that if you’re handy with a soldering iron, you can replace it with a longer one of your own. Just solder off the contacts on the antenna side (one with black case) and replace it with a twisted pair of up to 3ft in length. Be careful not to solder a short to the antenna coil as that will corrupt it’s performance. You should ohm out the replacement by probing the two leads and make sure you have a complete circuit.
If you rather just order an 3ft extender from us, you can order another antenna and list in the comments that you would like it to be made at 3ft in length.
thanks,
December 18, 2013 at 4:29 pm #5244Thanks for your quick response. Since we need this fairly quickly, we can do the soldering ourselves, but I’ve yet to find a place that sells the wire. Have any recommendations?

PatriciaDecember 18, 2013 at 7:11 pm #5245Hi Patricia, we use 28 gauge ribbon cable wire. It makes for a nice finish as opposed to twisted pair. You can order some from Newark here.
Hope that helps. Would love to get a video post of the finished replacement!! 🙂
