Hi,
This device does not seem user friendly. Why can’t you guys design a nice case with build in nfc flojack technology? And why can’t it use battery from the phone to work?
The requirements for price and compatibility across host devices prevents user friendliness from being a priority. We prototyped a phone case with the FloJack internals carefully integrated in a slim profile but failed to generate enough demand to warrant a factory production run. Because of the need to make a different case for every phone, you can understand how this quickly becomes cost prohibitive.
As for the use of host device battery as a source to drive the NFC reader, this would require Apple Made For iPhone program registration (MFI) and giving up 30% of every unit sold to Apple. The MFI program is notoriously difficult and expensive to get through so it was not in the cards for our budget.
