I see that the FloBLE has the capability to read ISO 15693 RFID tags, and reading through the forums here its not 100% clear if the FloJack has the same capability? One article says it can, but the SDK doesn’t support and another article says it can’t. Can the FloJack read/write to a ISO 15693 RFID tag, if so is that within the SDK?
Hi Ken, sorry for the confusion. The FloJack v1 that we built for Kickstarter supported ISO15693 but the latest version v2 that we sell does not. The reason is because we partnered with ACS to manufacture the FloJack v2 and their NFC transceiver of choice, the PN532, does not support ISO15693.
That said, the FloBLE does indeed support the full NFC Forum specification. Based on the TRF7970A NFC transceiver and full fledged BLE controller from Texas Instruments, the FloBLE runs the NFC and BLE stacks in firmware making for much better user experience. Unlike the FloJack v2 design which depends heavily on the Host device (iPhone, iPad) for polling for tags, managing scan experiences, etc., the FloBLE is doing all of this natively on the device and only interacting with the Host when absolutely necessary. Like after all tag data blocks have been read or if a new write payload needs to be configured into the FloBLE’s persistent memory.
