Hey there,
Right now, I am creating an iPhone game that I am hoping to launch the first week of April. It’s really exciting to think the release date is almost here, and I have been thinking about ways to make it easier for people to download the game – especially people in my school or physically near me.
I was wondering if the FloJack and 3D NFC Printable could be set so that, if activated, they direct people to the App store page for my app. It would be way easier than having a QR code and would save a lot of time.
Let me know if this is possible, and, if so, what the next steps I should take to customize the 3D printable.
Hi Micah, unfortunately the user experience of what you’re suggesting on iOS is poor. The issue has to do with limitations that iOS imposes. You can read more details about the differences between iOS and Android with respect to invoking actions here. Basically, Android has native NFC support so works awesome. iOS needs an app running and even then the actions you can trigger are vastly limited to launching a website, composing an email/sms, add a contact, and launching iTunes/App store.
hope that helps.
Hey Richard,
Thanks for the response!
Are you saying it will work; just poorly? Or are you saying that it isn’t really possible at this point?
Launching the App Store after scanning a NFC tag or 3D printable will work if and only if the user already has an app installed (and running) that has integrated the Flomio SDK. So if you see a viable scenario where you can guarantee users will have a Flomio SDK compatible app installed and running when they plug in and scan a tag with the FloJack, then yes the App store can be launched to your application after they scan your NFC enabled tag or 3D print.
