Hi there,
I am a library/Media Technician and member of the Technology Team at Callie Kirkpatrick Elementary School in Menifee,Ca. One of the other teachers on our team wants to start a Marathon club where the students would run before school each morning to accumulate as many miles as a marathon. We wanted to figure out a way to use NFC to have the students log their miles. Would it be possible to assign each child a tag or chip that is a unique number, and each time it is scanned, it tallies another lap or mile in their marathon goal. This technology seems very versatile and we would love it if you could let us know how we could use it for our project.Thank You,

The Sample app that we provide with the Flomio SDK would enable this scenario out of the box, you’d just need to cut/paste the scan log as shown here:
With our Cordova Plugin you code hack up a simple app of your own to show the child’s name and running total of laps as you scan their tag. We can help get you started via this thread and support you though the entire development sprint.
let us know,
RichardAugust 13, 2015 at 8:30 pm #53315Are there restrictions on what versions of the iPhone we could use. The teacher I am working with has some old iPhones that just operate on our site’s wi-fi network? I know certain apps can’t be used if they are no longer able to update the iOS.
This sounds very promising, though. I do have a minimal amount of programming experience. I just completed an Intro to Software Development class in which I learned Java. I actually found you through Stackflow.
We would love any help we can get to see if this is feasible. We are implementing so much technology education this year, it should be amazing to see how the kids pick up everything so quickly. They are like little sponges and are eager to learn everything new in technology. We would love for you to partner with us as we train the next generation of technology leaders. Do you guys ever make donations to education or provide discounts to schools?
Thanks for the information!
ChrystalNovember 7, 2015 at 9:47 am #53685Hey Crystal, the earliest iPhones the FloJack works well with are iPhone4 devices.
RE: Donations. We don’t have a donation program right now however we sponsor a hackathon called TrackHack where we give out hardware for developers to create their projects over a weekend. More info here.
November 9, 2015 at 12:11 pm #53715The hackathon sounds fantastic, but I am in Southern California. Are there any similar events near me? If you know a site where I could find other events like this in my area, I would very much appreciate it?

best,
RichardNovember 10, 2015 at 5:19 pm #53750Sounds great! I shared with my tech team about this TrackHack event concept. We are definitely interested in attending if you can bring it to our area. Thanks for everything!

November 16, 2015 at 5:23 pm #53841Hi Chrystal,
We’d be happy to help you on the NFC tag side. We produce a wide variety of NFC tags that could be used with the FloJack reader.
Thanks,
Mark -
