Hi,
I need an NFC solution were the user can use 2 NFC reader: one inside, the other outside a room. Distance from the 2 readers will be quite short because I can make a hole in the wall.I’d like to know if I can use use the NFC Patch Kit patch kit to have a double reader, or if the original reader will be not usable any more when I apply the patch on it.
Thanks

So in your use case you can still read tags on the NFC reader and on the NFC Patch Antenna extending through the wall. The only issue I can think of is that scanning the tag on the Patch Antenna might lead to a poor user experience since the user won’t be able to see or possibly hear the scan sound from the reader. How were you expecting to overcome this problem?
June 24, 2015 at 5:38 pm #53042Hi Richard,
good question. I’m using an Edison board with an NFC reader. I can put a led and a buzzer near each of two reader to provide the right user feedback.June 24, 2015 at 7:20 pm #53043I get it. Something to be aware of is that the NFC Patch Kit is designed and tuned for the Nexus 7 (2013). The Nexus 7 NFC antenna measures 56mm x 64mm in size. If the Intel Edison NFC shield that you’re using doesn’t closely match those dimensions, the inductive coupling with the NFC Patch will be diminished to the point that your NFC tags won’t be readable from the NFC Patch Antenna end.
We offer development services to do custom NFC Patch designs in case you’re interested in that. More info here.
August 26, 2015 at 6:57 am #53382Hi Richard,
I think that the size is right for my purposes. Before to order I’d like to know which kind of remote antenna is included in the kit.
I need to use the remote antenna mainly with a Microsoft Lumia smartphones. For this purpose do you think it will be better your circular antenna or the rectangular one? Thanks
-maxAugust 26, 2015 at 9:23 am #53383Hey Max, as of April we ran out of stock of the 32mm round antennas and have focused on the more generic 56mm X 64mm version instead. So while true that each antenna is suited for reading different devices, the larger one is most compatible with the broad array of targets on the market.
That said, I haven’t tested either of these antennas against the Microsoft Lumia smartphone for good measure. If you’d like to ship us a sample for us to test out what antenna geometry best fits it, we can do that and ship it back to you when done. Our office address is on our About page.
