NFC Patch Kit

Hi, I’m new at NFC and have a few questions.

I’m developing an android-app that will be installed on a android tablet with a NFC reader.
The tablet will permanently be located against a wall. Hence, the tablet NFC-antenn will not be reachable.

The intention is that the android tablet should scan each users NFC tag which then the android-app will read a specifik custom created NFC-tag.

Can I use the NFC Patch Kit to extend the reach of the NFC reader on the android tablet?
Will the NFC Patch Kit be able to transmit custom creaded NFC-tags?
Do I need any specific software for creating custom NFC-tags if using the NFC Patch Kit?

Hi Shila, your can definitely use the NFC Patch Kit for your application, that’s what it was designed for. The Patch Kit is a passive (batteryless) add-on to the scan surface of the NFC reader so everything the reader can transmit without it is what it can do with it. No special software is needed to make it work. Some other things to keep in mind: 1) the current patch geometry is custom tuned for the Google Nexus 7 (2013), 2) the current antenna geometry is designed for NFC tags larger than 40mm in diameter, and 3) you shouldn’t mount the tablet or kit antenna extension on metal surfaces as they will desensitize the NFC performance of the product.
