Greetings,
Thanks for sending the NFC patch. It’s simple to install and use on my Nexus 7 v2. But currently the tags need to touch (or almost touch) the sensor in order to work. The tags I’m using are 25mm, round, with NXP Ultralight (64 byte). I’m wondering if there are ways to increase the scan distance to perhaps 1/4″ to 3/8″.
You’ve mentioned via email that Nexus 7 v2 has poor NFC ability. Will the Nexus 7 v1 work better? Do you know of any low cost NFC devices? Nexus 7 seems to be the best bet at the moment.
Meanwhile, I will send a couple sample tags to you for further testing.
Thank you!
Jason
Hi Jason, from our experience the Nexus 7 v1 had a better scan performance. The scan surface is located in the upper side of the rear of the device so if you get your hands on one, make sure you place the NFC patch as show here:
Another option is to use an ACR122u or an ACR35. Both can extend the reader away from the tablet device. For the ACR122u you will need to use a USB OTG adapter. For the ACR35 you’ll need a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm female audio cable.
Send the tags for testing to:

Thank you Richard. We will try to get a hold of Nexus 7 v1 to see how it performs.
With something like ACR35, I assume we need to write special code for it in Android, correct? Or will Android just recognize it as a USB device and work with its built-in NFC APIs?
And would you happen to know any solutions (hardware and/or software) that can scan multiple tags at once? And what’d be its maximum distance?
Thank you and I will mail the test tags off this weekend.
Jason
