Hello,

What does “checks online for valid usage license on every scan” mean?

Phones have to be connected to the internet to validate the the tags is Flomio tag?

Hi Alvin, our Flomio SDK is licensed on a “per reader” basis. Meaning that you’ll need a valid license for each reader you intend to use with an app built on top of our SDK. If you (or your customers) purchase readers directly from Flomio, then the Basic Flomio SDK license is included and the readers are validated by our online license server when the SDK is instantiated. If the phone is not connected to the internet when the reader is initialized, then the license check will fail and the SDK will issue an error condition.

We also sell the Pro Flomio SDK which operates completely offline. For enterprises looking to deploy large numbers of readers we offer a perpetual and unlimited use license options as well. Let me know if you’re interested in learning more.

Hi Richard,

So Im looking to set a up a game with my friends and with NFC tags. Im ok with purchasing the tags from you, but they will likely wont want to buy readers but rather use their own phones (iPhones and Androids).

Im ok with buying your reader/writer. Maybe Im a little naive, but is this doable?

Hi Alvin, that’s a cool project and something you can get done pretty easily. The way to do it is to buy some blank tags and write them with an NFC writing application. If you’re on iPhone then you will need an NFC reader/writer device like the FloBLE Plus. Then you would use an app like our NFC Actions app to write URLs, Text, or other data onto the tags. By doing so your friends will be able to read these tags and trigger the custom actions you programmed into them. On Android this functionality is built in but on iPhone they will need to download the NFC Actions app too. It has a native read function so that your friends on iPhones can read the tags with their phones (no FloBLE needed). Should work out well.
