Dear Flomio,
we – a couple of human-computer-interaction students from Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg, Germany – came across your proximity ID solutions. Currently we are working on a project that requires us to generate and process proximity data of iPad Mini tablets. Our implementation idea revolves around NFC Tagging a grid on a flat surface (table), so as to enable the tablets to tell which other tablet on the grid they lie next to. This data would then be sent to a local server via the iPad Mini. Ideally our system would run on Java. We need a simple way to grab the proximity data provided by the NFC/RFID System and implement it into our program routine. Firstly, is one of your products a good fit for our problem? Secondly, do you ship to Bavaria, Germany? If so how long would shipping take, as we are on a tight schedule.
Thank you for your time. Best regards,

The feasibility of what you are trying to accomplish will depend on the tag geometry and the antenna geometry in the tablets native readers and the user experience you’re trying to achieve. The antenna geometry varies from tablet to tablet. Tags will function with minimal interference side by side in a grid with small separations (a few mm). What you would have determine is the size of the tags, for a given tablet (reader) antenna geometry that would give you the kind of user experience you’re trying to achieve. Basically smaller tags closer together are more likely to read in the “sweet spot” of the tablet, but of course would incur a greater cost per covered area. Android based tablets can be used with their internal readers, however iOS tablets do not allow access to the NFC reader. You can use our FloJack NFC reader to read tags on iOS. It includes our basic SDK for iOS app development. We recommend experimenting with our NFC sticker sheets and with our NFC Inlays this will give you a variety of tag sizes to experiment with various grids. We do ship to Germany, allow 1-2 weeks total from the time your order is placed for standard shipping.
