Dear Flomies,
I while ago, I bought a very cheap and simple RFID reader. All it did was to write the UID from a RFID tag directly to the computer and pressed “enter”. It would write wherever the mouse had been clicked, it could be in for example Word or an autofocused form on a web page.
Now I bought the ACR1255U-J1 with a hope of programming it to the the same simple operation with NFC tags.
Is this as simple as I hope? Does anyone have experience with such an operation?
Best regards,
Marcus
Hi Marcus, the reader behavior you describe is known as keyboard emulation and none of the readers we sell support that. This is mainly because it’s a very restrictive interface in that it only allows you to read UIDs from NFC/RFID tags. The more powerful feature of tags on the market these days require a more complex exchange often referred to as the ISO7816 interface or APDU exchange. That’s what the ACR1255U-J1 and the other readers we sell are designed for and although it can be used for simply reading UID, it involves a bit more code than just plug and play.
To help customers coming from the keyboard emulation experience we provide the Flomio SDK as a stop gap solution. It works on mobile phones and PCs for your convenience. For the PC version, you can try the Flomio SDK live from our website here: http://flomio.com/my-devices
best,
Richard
