Afternoon
I have been looking at your products and was interested in your opinion as to the best solution to my problem.
What I am trying it do using an RFID Tag, is read the tag via device connected to a smartphone app read a tag, pull up data from a web database about the product, qty etc, then if I need to move it, say where it is going, then commit the move. The database will then be updated accordingly.
Any ideas / solutions would be appreciated.
January 15, 2017 at 6:17 pm #58120Hi Iain, you can solve your problem with any of our readers for sale. These readers connect to iPhone or Android smartphones to capture the presence of an RFID tag (aka an NFC tag). The unique id of the tag (aka UUID) can then be linked to a database record of your choosing. Each one of our readers has different pros/cons which will depend on your deployment environment and other use case details. You can purchase compatible tags for your solution from us as well.
NFC has a short range of about 2cm so if you’re intending to read your tagged items from a longer range than that they I would recommend a different approach. Let me know if that’s the case and I can elaborate on other options.

Appreciate the comments.
Not looking for any long range scanning, just be able to walk up to a bag and scan it using an iphone or android device.
If there is a particular one you would recommend, what software / SDK I would need, I would appreciate it and if you know of anyone that can help with linking the UUID to the database, that would be great.

January 16, 2017 at 2:11 pm #58167Hi Iain,
The solution I would recommend is using the FloBLE Plus reader with an iPhone. The Readme (either Objective-C / Swift) in the Flomio SDK would help you create a project to get the UUID of a tag. You would then use this UUID to request the info and post the changes.
Do you have an existing database which you want to integrate with or are you looking for someone to help you create it? I can offer my services for all of the above, you can purchase Flomio service hours here.

January 16, 2017 at 3:44 pm #58182Hi Scott
Thanks for the email and for the suggestions.
What is the pricing for the units and for support to connect the data to a database as I don’t have one yet.

Whoa – $150/hr. Can’t afford many of those.
Just to give me a sense of how much it would be, please let me know.
I can if it saves some tine get the database completed etc.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

January 17, 2017 at 5:03 pm #58200Hi Iain,
If I could ask you for more info, that would be great. Is this for a prototype and have you designed how it would look? It is very difficult to gauge at this early stage how long it would take. The more you can tell me about the project the better. It would be possible to use iOS’s server framework CloudKit to save time. Building the interface to display the product information and commit the change to the server is also quite time consuming.
You can email me on scott@flomio.com, if you would like to send more info there.
Kind Regards,
Scott -
