I started working on indoor mini golf project. We wanted to use your products but I am not sure what. Here is the project details:
1) A player is assigned a golf ball with NFC/RFID tag;
2) The player is recognized at the tee off area before he/she tee off. A NFC/RFID reader is needed for the tee off area for each hole.
3) When the ball drops into a hole, another NFC/RFID reader should read the tag in the ball and notify the player that he/she finishes that hole. The player is asked to enter the number of strokes.
Could you please recommend the tag and readers can be used for this application?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!January 9, 2018 at 9:15 am #61947
Great idea! Hopefully we can help you tee off your NFC idea 🙂
This sounds like a job for the FloBLE Plus.
There would need to be a reader at the teeing ground and in each hole. You would need to test the reader with the golf balls to make sure they reliably trigger when the ball enters the hole.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Many thanks for your reply, Scott.
We have more questions:
What tag to match it with? Need a tag that can read at any angle, and be wet embedded into a golf ball.
How many can sync to each mobile device? We want an ipad at each hole. Can one ipad handle 2 readers?
Can we hardwire the power? That is a battery powered wireless device. We are doing a set installation. We also do not want the device to sleep, as per its description.
Thanks!January 13, 2018 at 5:32 am #61968
Hi Ivan, some answers inline below:

The best option for this would be an implantable NFC tag.
We don’t source these in low volume but you can order some samples here. These are a bit pricey because they are designed for human implants but once you prove out your golf ball prototype we’ll be able to source similar ones for much cheaper. I estimate that you will need 6 tags for each golf ball to get full coverage once the ball falls into the hole.

An iPad can connect and control as many as 6 FloBLE readers so you should be fine.
> Can we hardwire the power?
As detailed in this blog post, our FloBLE readers can operate continuously if powered by a USB2.0+ source (500mA or more).
