Iterate 001

Well.. we’ve been pondering for a while now.

What should we name our blog?

What will it be about?

Who will maintain it?

Up until now we’ve pretty much been posting random things about NFC here and there. Nothing really cohesive or consistent. Nothing really passionate. But that’s the thing with blogs. If you don’t know what your blog should be passionate about, the writing doesn’t flow.

Had an idea. Here goes.

Big Idea: Instead of conceptualizing the meaning of life for the Flomio blog, let’s make things simple. Let’s create a blog column. If it sucks, we can always cancel it.

Blog Column Name: We’ll call it ITERATE.

Purpose: We’ll maintain a blog column to cultivate collaborative creativity, idea sharing, and iteration. Things must be ideated, created, designed, and iterated. And we have to make money doing it, or at least cover costs before the ITERATE column’s startup funding runs out.

This is Why: When some startups say they’re pioneering something, it’s often just hubris, or hype. Flomio doesn’t have the choice to pioneer or not. It’s more a matter of survival. Flomio is about NFC technology. NFC is a new technology. Most people don’t know about it. If they do, they’re not sure what it does, or what it’s for? This begs the question: “If people don’t know what NFC is, how will they see the technology’s value?”

What we need to do: What this all means at Flomio is that we have no choice but to pioneer. Let’s not get things twisted. The minute you call yourself a startup, time starts ticking down. It’s a race against the time when the lights go out, and doors are shut. This blog has business value to us. It can help us live to fight another day. It’s R&D, marketing, community building and focus group, as well as stress release, all in one. It multi-tasks, as we all do. We think NFC, and any new technology for that matter, needs to be designed with the people use it. We want you to build your own NFC communities, so we’ve created an NFC ecosystem, with tools and apps to make it easy. The problem is this: If people don’t know what NFC is, or does, they won’t know what to do with it. Our products are useless. If we show people what NFC can do with simpler iterations and demos, we’ll show people it’s value. As result, we’ll bring value to our products.

In the spirit of ITERATE, the blog column, this first post is itself, an iteration. I’ve created a quick and dirty masthead to head the mast of all ITERATE blog posts.

Next Issue: Cool Ideas Using NFC Actions and NFC Cloud Tags

Not only will we come up with some crazy ideas, and sketch em out, we’ll make a demo and videotape it. I’d love to do 3, but will be happy with 1. So much to do in one day.
